The Site

The Black Bear Town

On this site will rise The Black Bear Town.

As you step out of your car and into the town, you will be back in time to the 18th Century where pioneers, prospectors and scalawags ruled the roost.  An authentic movie set frontier town, the air you breathe speaks of adventure and intrigue.  Take your time to relax and enjoy the ambiance of old Southern Utah.  You will see it the way Butch Cassidy and the Hole In The Rock Gang lived it.  You will have the opportunity to experience ol' Fort Thunder Gap, see the reality of The Black Bear's Blacksmith Shop as he fashions a new "old" mine wagon.  Check out Old Jerry's mine frame and derrick and roam through the streets of Black Bear Town and up to the authentic old rock quarry where many a stone, large and small was quarried and actually used in the building of the Old Rock Church in Mt. Carmel and many other buildings in old Orderville, the Mormon United Order Colony of the 1860s, 70s and 80s.

If you are adventurous, you will walk the trail over Mt. Walker to the old pioneer camp, check out the Ute Indian village above town, experience the fun of the old livery stable and maybe meet Black Bart and his gang.  You could spend many an enjoyable hour exploring Old Jerry's Cave, Stringham's Shingle Mill, playing on Long Valley's Covered Bridge or visiting one or more of the several gift shops located around town.  Lunch is served between 10:00 am and 4:30 pm from the old chuck wagon where you can choose some of cookie's favorite recipes for old fashioned pioneer Bar-B-Q, Cowboy Potatoes, fresh vegetable salad from Amy's garden and various flavors of freshly squeezed lemon-aid or authentic old fashioned root beer.

Whether you fancy the ambiance or the adventure, you will find a lot to pique the interest in The Black Bear Town where artisans and craftsman actually produce many if not most of the curious including the chainsaw carvings of Wooden Indians large and small... our famous black bears, wolves, and many other large and small artifacts of pioneer vintage.  Interested in learning how?  Seminars and classes are arranged and taught on demand where you can actually participate in the pioneer arts and crafts from blacksmithing, shingle making, wagon building, and the finer arts of painting and sculpting.  These and many more pioneer arts, crafts and skills can be mastered in a short time with the expert tutoring of our talented staff.  If you don't see what you fancy, ask...  You would likely be surprised to learn you probably just missed it in all the excitement.  It truly does take many visits to see it all.
